JÖNKÖPING. An artist contributing to Jönköping Museum's exhibition, Vad sägs om sex? (How about sex?), has been forced to touch up his work after it was deemed inappropriate for children.
The painting portrayed a naked couple, but the director of the museum, Jan Sundström, didn't like the look of the man's penis.
"The reworking created a new piece of art - it was almost better," said the exhibition's curator, Johan Billingsten, to TT.
It was his job to contact the artist, Peter Lundström, when it became clear that the picture was too much for the museum management to swallow.
In response, the artist decided to slip references to society into the piece by covering the man's tackle with clippings from certain sex-obsessed newspapers and magazines.
The exhibition series has been the subject of much discussion in Jönköping since the first part opened in October. Ylva Maria Thompson's casts of female genetalia - all one hundred of them - caused outrage when they were revealed.
"There was a lot of talk, but then it became rather enlightening," said Johan Billingsten.
"They all looked so different."
I saw the above-listed article today, and I just wanted to make a comment or two.
Okay, an artist was asked to "touch up" his artwork because it is inappropriate for children. Who brings their children to a sex exhibition?
In the article, it mentions that the director of the museum didn't like the look of the man's penis. You know, I don’t know many men who say, "I like the look of that man's penis"
And I absolutely love the language – the art was too much to swallow! Wow.
I just can't imagine that art is "shocking" in light of it being in a sex exhibit. I mean, what did they think they were going to see, falsies?
Normally I don't post two posts in a day, but come on, this article was too funny.

3. My Stories. Yeah, I have a few erotic stories here. I know, they are not all that good, but they were fun to write. Don't read them if this offends you (and they represent less than 1% of the content here). These stories have elements of truth and fantasy, some more true than others. Complain about something that is a bit more substantive if you must complain. I have lots of faults.

And that folks...is pure comedy. lol
Lived there for 15 years and people are people. when one goes to the museum and stand in front of the gigantic greek statues one can become accustomed to the small shrunkenness of the greek ideal of the beauty of maleness. i attempted to conjure up the online brochure and the only thing i can imagine is that this was of the large and aroused state which can leave people gawking with their mouths wide open catching flies or whatever. if you are interested it opens the 18th. ylva maria thompson is the reigning national sexologist. jonkoping is right outside the capital Stockholm. It is known for making matches and supplying parts to Saab.
Cheerio.

That made me rofl too. You see a lot of that in those types of pieces. I always imagine some poor fledgling reporter trying to inject some "color" into the wire stories he or she is forced to put out. (hee. another sex reference.)
I loved what the artist did in the end though.
You guys have me brainstorming where to take the plot of that story next!
I have to agree: "I like the look of that man's penis" is usually not a typical conversation that takes place.
However, Peter North has a penis that commands respect.
hehehe too good Leesa... I'm with you on all points ;-)
I thought it was great, too. Thanks for sharing this, Leesa. Good observations, and I share your love of the "swallow" comment.
prata: yeah, I try to post exactly one post per day (weekdays, not including holidays). Crap, you can see my OC tendencies peeking through. This was just a little extra fluff.
moebugge: thanks for the interesting comments! I once told someone that I would visit Stockholm to pick up my Nobel Prize. Guess I will have to start saving pennies.
giovanna: I will read your entry after I finish my other duties in blogland. I have just now started thinking of where this story is going.
kyuball: Isn't Peter North a claymation character?
rose: thanks, sweetie. I like how you split up your blogs.
joe: thanks, sweetie. I have not gone to your site yet. Do we have pictures today? Love the Penthouse letter!
My favorite part was the claim that the changes made it "almost better." In other words, not as good. Doctors should use technique for breaking the bad news. "Mrs. Cahill, your husbad is very nearly alive. The wreck hardly decapitated him at all."
I find it inetesting that they found the painting of the penis not suitable but the casts of the female genitals ok. Hmmm sounds double standardish to me.
And kyuball, I agree, Mr North, has got something there. Now, I'm a very straight guy but not as homophobic as many are. There are some in the world you just look at and say "hey that's impresive."
BTW-New reader here and I was hooked on the first read.
