Web Mail Slut

People, I have a problem. A big problem.

You see, I have had the same web mail address for years. Recently a friend of mine invited me to join her private blog, and in order to do so, I needed to have a gmail account. Damn Google, wanting to capture market share.

Anyway, after the 30 day grace period, Blogger shut me out from Blogger Beta (needing the Gmail account). So I reluctantly signed up for the account.

My problem is that Gmail is freekin' awesome. It is so much better than my web mail. So much better. Now I am not going to go into why Gmail is so good. But my problem is that I am committed to my other web mail. I have been using it for years, and I actually don't get too much personal mail. Mostly Blogger mail – all of the comments I get, and so forth. Some stats on how many people visit my blogger sites, that sort of thing.

Anyway, I have this unused Gmail account, but it is so much cooler than any of my other email account. It is easier to group messages, it is easier to add people, it is just plain cooler.

So here I have my faithful web mail, and it doesn't look as nice as this new Gmail account. I am faithful to my email, and I have not strayed. I still like my email, though the lust phase has ended. We are comfortable with one another. I know all of my current web mail's buttons. I can send an email efficiently, and it has treated me well. So why am I lusting for Gmail?

Gmail is sexy, and you know, Gmail doesn't want a commitment. Gmail just wants me to use it, and I am oh, so tempted. But I am afraid. What if Gmail is better – what if it treats me better? What if I like it better? What if I dream of Gmail? Long for Gmail? Horribly, what if I dump my web mail for Gmail? How will that make me feel?

I am such a web mail slut.

Sweets, you have settings in your Gmail account where you can actually forward that other mail to your gmail account. That way ya wont lose your old one. ;o)

Gmail is probably the best webmail (and standards compliant!) service out there. I have a gmail account. I do not actively use it.

I recently changed my e-mail address too (because I switched my internet provider). I HATED IT...but it'll save me like $25.00 a month. Although, from the comments, it sounds like Gmail is pretty damn sweet....I say go for it. :)

I've had gmail for almost a year now, and it is my primary address(I have about 6 others). It could possibly be the best thing to ever happen to email...

I have found I like gmail better too.
It saves drafts if you have to stop or lose power. And you can chat IM in there without having to download some IM program :)

Prata, can you sent me one?
Can I establish multiple accounts?

I've used Gmail for about 3 years, since day one, pretty much.

Best email bar none - screw groupwise.

I've got a couple hundred invites, if anyone is needy.

I still have 100 left myself...

lol! Leesa if I were your partner
I'd be concerned you'd found
a new love (attraction), and didn't quite know how to tell me, you know as in your wanting to let me down gently because one is so 'nice'

Mind you I'm so nice, I would probably simply say, honey if your heart is set on G-mail, don't let me hold you back.

Of course changing to G-mail doesn't require one to dump one's partner, but moving on to another partner does generally require letting go of one's ex

Fortunately for you ALMA above has the simple (and correct) answer to this life changing cataclysmic moment in your life. Hope you survive this trauma (drama) in your life, and lasting joy ensues

Can't you just have your regular web mail forwarded to your gmail addy? Later, you can change it as you want to.
Of course, now I'm on to check it out and hope I don't like it cause I've had my email addy for about 6 years.

alma: thanks for introducing me to Gmail. I still don't know if I want to take the plunge, but it is way cool.

prata: I have several email accounts, most of them work-related. All are harder to use than the "free" Gmail account.

stacy: hey, $25/month is a reason to change the addy!

bruce: changing is tempting.

cinderella: initially I did not know where I was going with this entry.

~deb: and we can use google chat to get down-n-dirty about this whole thing.

mal: I understand. Funny thing is that I am really thinking about my allegence to my normal web mail account.

gw: yeah, baby.

prata: very nice of you, prata.

advizer: do I get a cut of this?

l'amoureux de KT: very nice of you as well.

bruce: and nice of you. Wow, people who read me are so nice.

quasar: full of drama, my life is.

kathi: I will have to dig to find out what is possible. Thanks for the advise as well.
