Tony said something on the comments the other day – that my writing seems to have lacked passion of some of my earlier work.
And you know what, he is right. A large portion of my life lacks passion. I am not talking about my relationship with hubbie. That is fine. What is strange is that work is going well, too. Home life: check. Work: check. And I don't know what the problem is.
You know, I need a vice. I have already done the sex vice, and it didn't work out very well at all. I got an STD, I shared it with my hubbie, and we spent 1-12/ years in therapy. Not a good payoff. Not a good plan.
So I need another distraction – and what better distraction than a vice.
My first thought was alcohol. I like alcohol. It taste really good – the wine, the harder liquor, the desert drinks. I love alcohol. The only problem is that I am loosing weight, and alcohol equals weight gain. And I don't want to gain weight. A perfectly adorable vice with a no-no. No thank you. Not alcohol.
The next vice I thought about was drugs. The problem: drugs scare me. I am a compulsive person, and when I do something, I don't do it half-arse. I go all the way. I could not do marijuana anyway, because I am not a good smoker. In high school, I could not be cool because I never got off the coughs. It is hard to look cool when coughing up a lung. Trust me on this. Marijuana is out.
I guess the next thing would be Methamphetamine. I don't know a lot about Meth, but I do know that Meth is good about weight control. That is a good thing. Little known fact: women love Meth because of this side affect. But I have heard lots of bad things about Meth, how it is making orphans of kids because their parents are going to prison. Talk about a sucky family business. So I can't do Meth.
Other drugs? Nah. I know there are huge learning curves, you have to use needles (and share them, gross), or figure out how to obtain drugs. And these drugs are not on Ebay, at Walgreens or at the convenience score. Well, as a convenience store during certain hours.
Gambling is the next vice for me. I like that it uses math and reading people. I think I can read people well, and I can guess good at math, probabilities and all. The problem is the cash thing. I don't have a lot of cash, and it takes cash to gamble. Plus, I work hard for my cash, and I am not going to risk it on an inside straight.
So here I am, looking for a vice with little side effects. Damn passionless life. Crap.

First? No Way!!!
Awesome Post!
You still have me laughing my butt off. Take it from me, drugs are not for you, I spent a good 7 yrs of my life doing drugs. Heroin, Cocaine, Crack, Weed, LSD, Speed. If you ever wonder how it affects ones life send me a shout :)
I have pretty much dropped everything except for the odd usage of Cocaine when the boys get together every few months.
I'm sorry you got an STD, that is one thing I have never dealt with (Amen). I have just had an issue with adultery which my wife and I are still dealing with.
Gambling... did it tons but it never gave me a thrill for I work hard for my money as well, and it never gave anything back but grief.
It seems to me, you should turn your idea of needing a Vice to needing a Hobby. There are millions of hobbies available to the public now, maybe weekend horseback riding will give you passion that is missing. Or water rafting, sky diving, scrabble tournies (Think you would probably like this).
My only Vice left is smoking, I don't really consider drinking a vice as I don't ever over do it... Well... Rarely.
I wish you luck in finding your passion again, god knows some days I find that mine is gone forever, but each day brings a "New" start :)
Cheers!

Ha ha...funny thing, yesterday a friend and I were discussing what we had gotten our husbands for Christmas, and she mentioned that she had gotten her Hubby a "vise"....I giggled and asked, "drinking, drugs or sex?"
She didn't get it.
How about shoes as a vice? Or fantistic underthings? Shopping is my favorite vice...but the lack of funds keeps me from indulging...ever.
Sigh.
Maybe a vice is the wrong way to go, maybe you just need a passion, or an interst or a hobby.
Oooh-Ohh! get out your camera (digital)and go out and stalk someone...get them at the mall, gorcery store, whatever and snap pictures of them...bonus points if you follow them to numerous locations...then write about them and thier lives here...with pictures....it would make for an intersting entry at least.
Plus I think that the thrill of voyeurism (even at it's most innocent)might be enough to rekindle your sparkle.
And by the way, your green dress sounds lovely.

Oh dear, I lagged out and kept clicking Publish :(
Look at the disaster I created...
This is a moment where I wish I had a hard core vice again!
Sorry!

Pythos, dude, we get the point, "Awesome Post!".
Just Kidding.
What was that title: "What were once vices are now bad habits?"
I recognize in you what I am going through. I have no hobbies. I've let other things dictate how I spend my time.
All I can say is get out of your comfort zone. Join a group of some sort. It may be something you only have a mild interest in but it could lead to something else. Try going to the library and just perusing the shelves. When I was a kid that's what I'd do and I always found something I didn't know about which always led to something else.
Of course, if I had followed my own advice I'd have a hobby or an interest or a passion.
Alcohol doesn't equal weight gain. It only equals weight gain if you do not exercise ever.
Alcohol contains no cholesteral no fat and virtually no sodium. Alcohol does contain calories, but so does everything else you consume that is not artificially create for that effect.
There have been several very very high volume studies done across the world which negate the idea of weight gain in people who consume alcohol. In fact, alcohol actually has been seen to increase metabolism which does what children? Yes, that's right, increase the rate of caloric burn. Unfortunately, weight gain is noted in people who drink heavily mainly due to sedentary lifestyle and high fat foods found in bars and other such locales where one may consume alcohol.
monica: which blog do you update. I have missed reading about your life.
pyth0s: thanks, sweetie.
monica: my hubbie wanted a vise a few years ago, and I was not smart enough to make the same comment you made. Great!

tony: it seems like time is just slipping through my fingers right now. Can't explain it.
prata: and I have not been exercising either.
VX: I wonder if I am not depressed. How can I tell?

Blogging is a vice- go visit people read their uhhh thoughts? and deeds or misdeeds
But speed definitely a no no, great to start with if you wanna lose weight - but later baloooon
Tony, Does could or would cycling count as a 'bad habit' or vice
quasar9: If you can't focus on one bad habit and keep cycling through them all then it's a vice.
Leesa,
I would go with the running & exercising. Its a natural high, plus, you are a beautiful woman and the rewards would only enhance your beauty more.
My addiction is scrapbooking -- buying the supplies and hiding them from my SO -- keeps me busy and clean :)
